{"id":651,"date":"2017-05-30T16:55:11","date_gmt":"2017-05-30T15:55:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bathfringe.co.uk\/?p=651"},"modified":"2017-12-21T15:11:30","modified_gmt":"2017-12-21T15:11:30","slug":"baths-dark-past-brought-to-light-fringe-moves-into-the-app-age","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/2022.bathfringe.co.uk\/wordpress\/baths-dark-past-brought-to-light-fringe-moves-into-the-app-age\/","title":{"rendered":"Bath\u2019s Dark Past brought to light &#8211; Fringe moves into the app age"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Gill Sans MT,sans-serif;\">As part of our outdoor arts programme and one of the trails &amp; maps strand which seems to have spontaneously generated itself for this year\u2019s Fringe, today Bath Fringe announces our first piece of <b>mobile app art<\/b>!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Gill Sans MT,sans-serif;\">Bath-based artist <b>Stanley Donwood<\/b> \u2013 best known for his cover artwork for every Radiohead release, as well as Glastonbury Festival\u2019s official poster and T-Shirt \u2013 has made several pieces of work, mostly textual, deflating the ideas of Bath\u2019s heritage by extending stories of the city\u2019s history into the realms of outrage &amp; fantasy: these include his pulp fiction novel <i>Catacombs of Terror<\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Gill Sans MT,sans-serif;\">The latest iteration of that material is <b>Bath\u2019s Dark Past<\/b>, a raging nightmare of the city narrated by Natural Theatre stalwart <b>Ric Jerrom<\/b>, and turned into an app with the assistance of Bath mobile tech company <b>Blispa<\/b>. It\u2019s designed to be downloaded and listened to whilst walking the streets; the story unfolds as you follow the trail, like a guided tour \u2013 but with a distinct difference. You need a mobile device (no roaming download necessary, it\u2019s a one-shot) equipped with bluetooth \u2013 and \u2013 if you don\u2019t want to frighten passers-by with stray scraps of wild fantasy \u2013 headphones or earbuds. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Gill Sans MT,sans-serif;\">Download the <b>de.via<\/b> app and (at present) it\u2019s the only story.
